  • An ADU is a dwelling unit that is subordinante and incidental to a primary building on the same lot. The ADU may be attached or detached. An ADU is permitted in all districts within the City of South Bend, provided it meets the standards established in
    the Zoning Ordinance.

    Please be advised:

    • Only one ADU is allowed per lot
    • If in Suburban Neighborhood 1, Urban Neighborhood 1, or Urban Neighborhood 2 zoning districts, the owner(s) of the lot shall occupy at least one of the dwelling units
    • Receipt of the application does not mean a permit has been issued
    • If work has been started without a permit, fines may be issued

    • A site plan to scale
    • Elevation plans
