  • This application is for both commercial (either in right-of-way or not in right-of-way) and residential purposes.

    Please note:

    • EV charging stations are allowed in all zoning districts in South Bend. EV charging stations are exempted from accessory structure standards and can be installed at any legally established parking space.

    Before you begin:

    • If this EV charger will be located in the public right-of-way, a right-of-way encroachment permit must be obtained first and an address must be assigned to this project from the City by calling 574-235-9251 or the County Public Works / Engineering Department by calling 574-235-7800

    Please be advised:

    • Payment for permit can be completed in-person at City Hall with a company card or check and can't be made over the phone
    • Receipt of application does not mean a pemit has been issued
    • If work has been started without a permit, fines may be issued
